Study Permit Extension

Extending a study permit involves several steps and it's important to start the process well before your current permit expires. Here are the general steps you should follow:

Check Eligibility: Ensure you meet the requirements to extend your study permit. This usually includes being a student at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) and making progress towards completing your program.

Gather Documents: You will need various documents, such as:A letter of acceptance or enrollment from your DLI.Proof of sufficient funds to support yourself during your studies.A valid passport or travel document.Any additional documents requested by immigration authorities.

Complete the Application:Fill out the application form for extending your study permit (IMM 5709). You can find this form on the official immigration website of the country where you are studying.

Pay the Fees:There is a processing fee for extending your study permit. Make sure to pay this fee and keep the receipt.

Submit the Application:Submit your completed application form along with all the required documents and payment receipt. You can usually do this online through the official immigration website.

Biometrics:Depending on your nationality, you may need to provide biometrics (fingerprints and photo). If required, you will receive a biometrics instruction letter after submitting your application. Follow the instructions to complete this step.

Processing Time:Wait for your application to be processed. Processing times can vary, so it's a good idea to apply at least 30 days before your current permit expires.

After Submission: While waiting for your extension, you are generally allowed to continue studying under the same conditions as your current permit.
